For iPhone users, i would recommend Tap Tap Revenge 4 ($1.99)
which might had been free before the new Tap Tap Tour came out. It's also available on Google Play
for Free. I do not know the differences of the versions on the different
platforms. TTR 4
has a lot of popular songs. Each song has it's own unique quality
gameplay artwork(some are based on templates as far as I know, but still has background photo's of the artist.). There are a large number of packs of a variety of some
of the biggest, most popular music bands. If you don't believe me, here's a list that should be quite convincing. (source:App Store description)

EVERY WEEK, WE FEATURE A NEW HIT TRACK FOR FREE DOWNLOAD IN THE GAME
Most of those songs from bigger bands come in packs that must be purchased.
Only that last screenshot is from the App Store, the rest are from Google Play. Many of the songs aren't rock(most previous guitar music games focus on rock songs). A countdown feature from pausing is included in the app. Maybe the most colorful music app yet. However, maybe the colors are distracting me. Quite Challenging. The user interface and animations are very legit. During a song there is a bar on top to let you know the progress of the song. Although, I didn't really have much time to pay attention while playing on harder modes.
I find the tracks that don't come straight down more difficult for me to play. All in all, still an app worth mentioning with discussing this type of music app. It uses the internet to browse available songs, so navigating might be slower if you're not using quick wifi. Difficulty levels are a plus. Most extra packs or songs cost $.99 or $1.99. However, there are a good number of FREE TRACKS. Check out the user reviews on Google Play before purchasing packs for Android. There are a few unhappy people who didn't get their purchases. Tap Tap Games are brought to you by the developers at Tapulous Inc.
Enjoy.
